Denise Bossarte's "Glamorous" Novel - Story Process Part 4: "Act 2"

"Glamorous" Story Process Part  4: "Act 2"

The second act is where interesting things start to happen and the reader gets a glimpse of a story involving the minor characters . It is composed of the following 3 elements.

[This information is taken from Blake Snyder's book Save The Cat]

Fun and Games - Where the reader gets to see all the expected moments based on the book cover and the book description. We learn more about the main character, the minor characters, and have "fun" along the way. Even if the fun is the main character realizing the seriousness of their predicament.

This part of the book is not concerned with the forward progress of the story, the stakes won't be raised until the midpoint. Right now, it is about having "fun" and exploring the world of the story, taking a break from the stakes of the story to see what the idea is all about.

B Story - The "love" story in the book  that carries the theme of the novel. The B story helps to give the reader a breather from the A story. The B story also can include a brand new bunch of characters the reader hasn't seen up to this point in the book, some of whom we didn't even know existed.

Midpoint - There are two halves to the book, and the midpoint is the threshold between them. This can either be an "up" where it seems the hero peaks (although it is a false peak), or a "down" when the world collapses around the hero (although it is a false collapse). The fun and games are over and the stakes are raised from here on out in the story.
