"Glamorous" Story Idea Part 5: Transitioning to a Full Length Novel

"Glamorous" Story Idea Part 5: Transitioning to a Full Length Novel

Working with my friend in our Novel Club got me inspired to turn my short story into a full length novel.

I had the title I liked from the very beginning, so that stuck with me throughout and is the name of my book "Glamorous."

First thing I did was go back through all the versions of the story I had (short story, novella, etc.) and put together the longest version of the story I could piece together. Not a recommended approach, by any means, but I didn't want to lose any of those good ideas!

Then I followed my friend's advice to read Blake Snyder's book
"Save The Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need."

(More on this book and how this all works will be part of the "Story Process" blog series.)

And then I put together a story board of what I had in hand. Here is a picture of the story board on my wall in my writing space (a.k.a. dining room nook.)

Those of you with very good eyes will see that this board is actually my "marketing" board now. I took down the Glamorous story board to start working on the next phase of the process - publishing and marketing.

The red highlights show where the pieces of my short story/novella conglomerate actually fit into the structure of an overall full length novel.

Whoa! Lots off writing needed to be done!

So the thinking and musing about the plot and characters began in earnest!
